Who was involved?

Hannah Tombling at Diamond Wood Community Academy, Dewsbury.

What happened?

Diamond Wood Community Academy celebrates Green Day every year.  This year the school used the MEE Big Questions and planning documents to structure the day, early years used “What is outdoors?”  and “Is it all rubbish?” and KS1 used “Who lives near me?” and “How much stuff is enough?” The author, Ellie Jackson shared a special reading of her new book ‘Berties prickly problem’, The whole school focused on hedgehogs and litter.

What role did we play?

Hannah weaved the big questions throughout the day and used the learning journeys to structure the activities. Paul recorded a personal message for Diamond Wood to share during the introduction assembly. Hannah worked with the whole staff to show how the MEE framework can be used across the curriculum more widely, using the day as a launch pad.

What was the impact?

Feedback

“Thanks for organising it Hannah. The children loved the story ❤️” Mrs Lillie Y1

“Thanks so much for all you have done Hannah! It sounded like it was a really positive” Mrs Price DHT.

What can teachers learn from this?

A Green Day or Eco Drop Down day is an excellent, easy way to explore the MEE framework and focus on one or two areas.  It gives the whole school a taste for climate, sustainability and climate education.
